the morgan library and new york public library

morgan cat
new york public library
patience or fortitude?

Last Saturday I took my own library tour of New York City.

The Morgan is my new favorite place;
complete with secret passage ways and tiers of walnut bookcases
it's intimate, mysterious and romantic all at the same time.

The New York Public Library was crowded
but still a grand room to visit.

sigh…books

more snow...

downy woodpecker

Yes, today we received about 5" of snow.

The roads and sidewalks are messy and difficult to clear,
there is no where to put all the white stuff!

I went into work and then stopped by
my local library to pay off an over due fine.
Their computers were down so I couldn't check out any books.
sigh…

The Downy Woodpecker is a very shy bird
so this was the one photo I could take before it flew back to the trees.

Today I registered with Cornell University to be a bird counter.
It's late in the season to start but I will automatically be set up for next year.

New York City

5th Avenue
Grand Central Terminal - 100 years old
New York Public Library
Temple of Dendur - Metropolitan Museum of Art
Central Park
Times Square

D and I spent a very cold day in New York City yesterday.
The temperature was in the 20's with wind gusts up to 50mph
making it feel like single digits.
On 77th Street we actually saw a woman knocked over by a gust of wind!

There was a Matisse show at the Met that I was very excited to see.
Despite the sub-freezing temperatures we had a great time.
Maybe next time my other brother will be able to join us.

Pearl S. Buck House

small library

Camellia greenhouse

I went for a ride today and ended up at Green Hills Farm,
Pearl Buck is best known for her book The Good Earth.
A large restoration project was just completed on the home earlier this year.

I didn't have time to tour the inside of the house but was
able to sneak a photo of the small library through a side door window.
(I'm rather smitten with that rose colored chair.)

The grounds were immaculate.
I doubt a squirrel or rabbit would dare to brave that green lawn!
