Monday - Memorial Day

The book is now in production.
There will be a total of twelve copies when completed.
Seventy-seven prints made today and only thirty-three more to hand color!
I must maintain momentum...

Today is a day to remember and thank those who fought
and gave their lives for this country.
A very dear friend wrote an important book about torture and
its lasting effects on soldiers, their families and our society as a whole.

Sunday - Book Art - Farm

It feels like I've just run a marathon,
but here's the first copy of Farm.

Tunnel book on one side and concertina on the other.

Lettuce, onions, carrots, pumpkin, eggplant, tomato, pepper and corn.
It does require that you look down into the tunnel to see all the veg.

I do believe this was the quickest I have ever made a book.
Now only 12 more copies to make!

Enough for tonight.
Some yoga and then a salad from my already ailing 'salad bowl.'
(I should have listened to the garden center lady)

Saturday - Garden Book

It feels like summer has officially arrived.
The air is hot and muggy; typical Pennsylvania haze
gave way to intense thunderstorms that still grumble in the distance.

The last couple of days I've been working on my next little book.
Again, it will be a tunnel format but with a twist this time.
The proof sheets are pictured above.

I spent little time figuring the plates out and didn't do any
preliminary drawings but instead drew directly
on the blocks and cut fearlessly.
My mantra, "This is supposed to be fun."

The salad bowl in the first picture came from the local garden center.
"Don't keep it indoors," the sales person warned me repeatedly.
Could she tell I was without a plot of land or balcony?
So there it sits on my windowsill.

Wednesday Morning

I've decided to reacquaint myself with my toes
and have started to do some yoga again.
In the past my practice has been inconsistent...to say the least
Time to polish those toenails and get back to work!

I have been working on some new book ideas but it's been slow going.

Watered the plants, smelled a peony
and spent coffee time with the new issue of Selvedge.

Weekend Camping

At the last minute I went camping on Saturday night.
It's been far too long since I've been up to the mountains.

The weather was perfect and I must admit to spending most of Sunday
lounging around, listening to birds and breezes.

Caught (and released) four trout, cooked pizza on the grill, ate copious
amounts of strawberries and oranges, and did a little sock knitting.

A perfect weekend.

Saturday - Downtown Bethlehem

It's one of those near perfect days...

the sky is bright
roses are blooming
and small white flowers
seem to float in the shade

Thursday - After Work

I spied the first of the wild strawberries this evening
picked up some fruit at the grocery store
and messed around with a little stamp

Wednesday - From My Window

These are some the voices from the alley outside my window this morning.
The Pileated Woodpecker is a much missed friend from Florida.

Hmmm...perhaps I should make my own set of Flashcards...

Sunday - Unpacking

I spent a quiet day at home trying to prepare for work next week.
My once empty refrigerator is now full, my suitcase unpacked and put away.

Every year I bring a little something home with me.
This year I chose the small dish.
The year before it was the wooden crochet hooks.
Two years ago, a favorite serving spoon.

The bundle of pine needles
remind me of my family's back porch.

Missing everyone...
xo

Farmer's Market and Home

The Saturday Farmer's Market on my last morning in Florida.
How I'll miss the organically grown local fruits and vegetables!
I'll have to wait another month or two for our growing season and such
fresh food...sigh...blueberries that have never been refrigerated, yum!
Vendors also sold flowers, herbs and landscaping plants...I carried home a small orchid on the plane. : )
Home late, it was a bumpy ride from Atlanta.
g'night

Butterflies and the Woods

A visit to the Butterfly Rainforest at the Florida Museum of Natural History.
It was a temperate morning and the butterflies were enjoying the low humidity.

Late this afternoon we took a drive through the neighborhood I grew up in and walked through the woods I once explored by bicycle.

The house was hidden down a lane that I never explored while living there.

Thursday - Sunrise on the Beach

Last night there were rainstorms and clouds lingered over the ocean as the sun rose this morning.

Pelicans
Black Headed Conures
Abandoned Pink Bermuda Shorts

So beautiful...
