dudley farm

Fred

This is the last of my Florida posts.
Dudley farm was built in 1855 and remains an historic
working farm just outside of Gainesville.

What I love about Dudley is that you must park in a lot
and then walk the old road back to the farm.
That short walk has the power to transport you back in time.

Florida is mostly sand covered as is apparent from the garden photo.
There is a small herd of cattle, a horse, a mule and chickens
that are year round residents.

The kitchen is in a separate building just behind the house,
as Florida summers can be very hot and humid.

I absolutely love the corn husk broom!
Would love to make one of my own.
A quilt in progress hangs on a frame suspended over
the beds in the front bedroom.

Thanks for allowing me to share some of my favorite holiday photos.
Now it's back to making things!

Kutztown Folk Festival

What better way to spend the Fourth of July than at a festival.
This was my first time to the Kutztown Folk Festival and it was blistering hot.

Hex signs and quilts are a staple in PA Dutch tradition.
The quilt barn was amazing and all the pieces were for sale.
Glassblowing, weaving and beekeeping were only some
of the other traditional crafts being demonstrated.

For lunch I had a hotdog with sauerkraut and a huge cup
of freshly squeezed lemonade, yum.

I love the little goat in the livestock tent and the girl
braiding the horse's forelock would have been me many years ago.
A Wood Thrush print, various herbal concoctions and simple stoneware mug
all came home with me.

Happy Fourth of July!

Quiet Morning

Last night it was cool enough to turn off the fan and snuggle under quilts.
The past few nights have been full of swooping bats and pouncing foxes.
The vixen has brought her kit down from the mountain to hunt.

This morning a swirly breeze is tossing clouds across the sky and the air smells of cut grass.

A new knitting magazine, berries from the weekend and some simple paper marbling I did last week.

I received news of two dear friends who are very ill...they fill my thoughts today.
