Some Color...

I've been posting so much grey lately I decided it was time to show some color!
The sky has been its usual March self; turbulent one moment and glorious the next.

This past weekend I haunted a couple of the local Antique Centers, searching for
a variety of pretty handkerchiefs.  I plan on sewing them together and then hanging
the shade in my kitchen window, a translucent patchwork of flowers.

The seed packets were purchased as much for their lovely packaging
as the seeds they contain!

Sophie is sleeping on my sunny windowsill and I must get ready for work.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying some bit of Spring like change.
Enjoy tonight's full moon!

Snow and the Perfect Sweater

It's really snowing here again!
After a winter of very little snow it seems to be catching up with us now.
I don't mind, it won't be around for very long, and the robins are back.
Spring is only a couple of days away.

Here's a photo of the sweater I am working on.
This image was floating around various tumblr sites and the designer,
Isabell Kraemer, has finally made the pattern available on Ravelry.
Mine is a lighter grey Merino/Cashmere blend found on sale at my favorite yarn shop.
I'll be knitting many versions of this sweater!

More Snow and Orchids

It snowed all day today.
Large snowflakes that stuck to the trees but not the roads...perfect.
My kitchen window orchids are still blooming.

A pair of brown wrens were singing to each other all afternoon.
Courting and looking for a place to nest, I suppose.
It will be nice to have them near this summer.

Started another knitting project, more on that tomorrow.

Radish Sprouts

Last Saturday I started some radish sprouts.
Soaked for 12 hours and then put to drain in a cool dark cabinet,
they required a twice day rinsing for five days to become the
spicy little sprouts filling the jar in the photo above.

Sandwiches and salads for the next few days will be a little crunchier.
Yum

Oh, and I hear Robins outside my window, they're back!
I've missed their funny little laughing call.

Strawberry Freezer Jam

Strawberries from Florida are a great deal in the grocery store right now.
I couldn't resist buying a large container and trying my hand at no cook "freezer jam."

With berries, pectin, sugar and potato masher in hand I made a batch this morning.
I'm not sure how it will taste but it was loads of fun to make.
Five are in the freezer and one in the refrigerator for use this week.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
We turned our clocks ahead an hour here so it stays light later
but the day has flown by.

I wonder if it will snow again

Wednesday

page 128 from Volume Seven of Kinfolk magazine

It's grey and dark this morning but not very cold.
A gusty wind swirls through the dried leaves
and raindrops fall sporadically.

Maybe the storm will track to the South.

Cucumber Salad

Lately I have been craving cucumber salad.
Cucumbers, red onion, dill, vinegar and feta cheese.
On Sunday I made a big bowl and have been eating it for lunch.

A late winter storm may be coming my way tomorrow.
The birds are singing regardless.
